As i was just responding to the gay marriage thread, a thought struck me. A theme I hear repeatedly, particularly on the aforementioned topic, is privileges vs rights. And that there are actually people on here, who I can assume are American and probably represent mounds of others like themselves, who are very willing to decide who has certains rights vs privileges...

This, along with government interference that is happily accepted post-9/11, i.e. "Homeland Security," the patriot act, etc, in the name of protecting us from "them" is rapidly adding up.

In absolute seriousness, I really think it is possible that our Country could head in the direction of Nazi Germany, which rose to power in a time of great fear. What makes it more likely is that people have automatically assumed the "it could never happen here" mentality. What made that happen was normal people, just citizens like you and me.

We better watch ourselves.
