So, you would have allowed the air traffic controllers to strike in the 80's? You would sit back, and allow the airline industry to collapse? You would allow millions of dollars worth of daily economic damage, while they picketed?
What if you had an auto accident. Two broken legs, a few broken ribs, and maybe a collapsed lung. "Sorry Douggie," Mr. Surgeon says, "we're on STRIKE. If you need medical assistance, then see if one of the nurses will try and fix you. It ain't gonna be me, because my needs are more important than yours."

The pay increase for air traffic controllers costs less than the millions, if not billions of dollars a day in economic damage. It would be more worthwhile to give them their raise. For the information here is what was asked "across-the-board wage increase of $10,000/yr for controllers whose pay ranged from $20,462 to $49,229; the reduction of a five-day, 40-hour work week to a four-day, 32-hour work week; and full retirement after 20 years service -- a package with a $770 million price tag.((probably the salary and bonus of all the airline execs combined))" There would have been more economic damage done in a few days. Therefore, worth it.
And, as for the surgeon, if they can get it, they are worth it. (smells like capitalism??)
