Despite her written agreement back in September 2007 that Michigan and Florida would be stripped of their delegates for conducting their primaries in conflict with DNC rules, Clinton is now trying to strong arm the Democratic party in an attempt to force them to seat delegates from the two states where there was no fair contest.
Michigan and Florida officials were informed ahead of time of the consequences yet they proceeded anyway. The real solution would be a do-over, but officials from neither state have admitted they made a mistake, and have foisted the responsibility on the DNC and chairman Howard Dean. Michigan and Florida officials refused to provide the funding necessary to conduct new primaries, so the true loss is definitely of the voting rites of citizens of those two states. But because Clinton was the only name on the ballot in Michigan, her solution would only take her own supporters in consideration. The voices of Obama supporters would not be represented, so her claim that she is only concerned about voter disenfranchisement is completely transparent.
Furthermore, she is claiming her concern is for the 2.5 million votes will be cast out if the delegates aren't seated, but what about the millions of other Americans from every other state where the officials followed the rules and voters casted their votes in good faith, assuming no unfair votes would be tallied. So the question is really one of voter disenfranchisement for all Democrats vs. penalization for Democratic voters in two states which knowingly violated party rules.
Today, faced with the prospect that things might not go her way in the committee meeting tomorrow, Clinton resorted to intimidation to try to force committee members to take her side. She unleashed her attack dog, lawyer Lyn Utrecht, to give off the impression there would be legal consequences if they did not bow to her wishes. -
