What would benefit long-term peace in the Balkans more: ethnic segregation? Or ethnic integration? I found myself thinking about this question after reading an interesting blog post by Krenar Gashi (Editor of Balkan Insight) regarding Kosovar/Albanian identity.

When one considers only short term peace, it surely seems beneficial to separate the various ethnicities of the Balkans into their home-country. "Would there not be peace," people might say, "if the Albanians lived in Albania; the Serbians in Serbia; the Croatians in Croatia, and so forth."

not sure. It will take a while, but Kosovars will have the same language, the same culture as their brothers/first cousins in Albania. The best way to understand Kosovar situation is to read about Austria or Swizerland vs Germany.
