Confusing.
Okay, obviously, pedophilia is sick and wrong. But I don't think you can make it illegal to be a pedophile. For one thing, it criminalizes thought, and for another thing, it wouldn't really protect kids -- in fact, such laws would probably harm kids by making them freakin' paranoid. We already do that too much to kids.
Let's look at this from the precedent of Man Law #1: Protect the Women and Children. To what extent do we protect women from admitted rapists, and how much more protection do children require since they're kids and hence not so much able to take care of themselves?
If a guy puts up a website saying that he wants to rape women, what sort of action should we take against that guy? Does it make a difference if it's presented as a fantasy, or an intent? It probably should. Does it make a difference if it's a specific woman, or women in general?
This is all such a weird area. I guess I'm glad for now that he's not allowed around kids. Maybe this should be seen as a best-case scenario when it comes to pedophiles -- the dude advertises his problem so at least everybody knows about it and can act accordingly before something really bad happens.
