While I agree with you in some senses, that's a little like saying "someday some smart american is going to invent the a-bomb."

It's true, but it's the type of thing that just can't happen without resources.

You can run a car on methane.

It is in the oil companies best interests to invent new forms of energy.....that's how capitalism works.

If they don't do it, somebody else will......

I find democrats today to be relentless in their pursuit of keeping us from using our own resources, it has been that way since Carter with no compromise. BTW, if you didn't happen to notice in the article I posted, to his credit, Carter invested tax dollars into the algae technology, but was scrapped by Clinton.

You are right, we do want the same goal, and innovation and invention is the true pride of America, if there is a need, we can make it happen.

But, once they find a sustainable alternative, the supply is no longer finite, and depending on the tech, not as horizontally integrated into the economy.

They have plenty of motivation not to work too hard, which is why they're not.

Whereas, China is accelerating it's work on this stuff. God help us if they find something sustainable before we do...

Now, I'm not saying that we should prioritize this above people's lives and other vital resources. That's what makes us better than china.

And, we don't have to start by carving a laboratory out of a peasant village, either.

But, they're gaining, fast.

(sigh) Definitely not what I was hoping for from the term 'organic oil'.

Where you and I disagree is my being adamant about using our own resources until alternative energy becomes a viable option. The infrastructures in these alternatives can take some time to implement. If we weren't in the middle east for oil, we would likely have no terrorism problem.

I will say this, I hope that we can within the next decade we will be up and running with alternative energy. We will most likely always need oil, so using our own is the best option.
YES!! Wouldn't it be GREAT to just be able to thumb our noses at the Saudi's and other Middle Easterners who believe they have the world by the b's? I would love to see them out of their Mercedes and back on the camels. <g>
