In all seriousness, I'd definitely be interested in checking it out at some point.

I just rented the dvd set. not bad history for a television piece.

it is well worth seeing if only to brush up on things and to maybe learn a few others. I do find myself checking out facts though...as anything on television is open to dramatic license.

Watch the DVD and allow for poetic license. Read all of the TJ books and decide for yourself.

FYI - The Ben Franklin prose seems to be an accurate portrayal.

I still think TJ was out of step with the times. All the things he was against are what made America great: Banks, Industry/industrial revolution....cities..

His agrarian utopia would've kept us a backwards people during the coming nineteenth and twentieth centuries, like the Russians were.

It was a great series.My favorite scene is when John Adams meet King George...

Funny, I thought that was great too. I think the portrayal of the King with all his awesome power facing down Adams who had to recognize the rights of the King was touching. I don't think most people would meet the King in those days with all the trappings of power and not be humbled. The King could call up an army to die in his name. No Adams or Jefferson could ever have done that.

I think most of the rubes in America would disrespect the royals. Myself, I would not and do not respect them as persons, but their offices and titles are to be respected. Diplomacy is a funny thing. The nuanced demands of it all may look on the face of it like hypocrisy, but recognizing and understanding nuance is where the men are separated from the boys or the women from the girls.

A friend of mine reccommended the show to me and originally I was skeptical but it ended up being one of my favorite series- if only I didn't have to pay extra to get HBO each month.
