My parents are big time conservatives too. My mother actually believed that if John Kerry had won in 2004 the country would be overrun by terrorists and we would all be beheaded.

I don't know if I would feel ashamed for my parents point of view. I pity them that they cannot see the truth.

My Dad does not want to pay property tax since he has no kids in school. We debated this a number of times. I stated that the children are our future and we must guarantee them an education. My Dad actually said (*)(*)(*)(*) Them.

This from a man who instilled every morality I have in me since I was old enough to hear.

It's the hate and bigotry that is scaring rational-minded voters away from the GOP (which has a few good ideas, but their buried under the politics of hate and fear).

I too, have had family members that call themselves "conservative" (although a true conservative would not want to lower taxes while raising military expenses, that's not financially conservative at all, but quite the opposite of conservative: reckless). One can only show the horse water, but cannot force the horse to drink.
