Default Deals with Iraq are set to bring oil giants back

BAGHDAD: Four Western oil companies are in the final stages of negotiations this month on contracts that will return them to Iraq, 36 years after losing their oil concession to nationalization as Saddam Hussein rose to power.

Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP — the original partners in the Iraq Petroleum Company — along with Chevron and a number of smaller oil companies, are in talks with Iraq's Oil Ministry for no-bid contracts to service Iraq's largest fields, according to ministry officials, oil company officials and an American diplomat.

I hate seeing the obvious, I liked thinking he was removed because of WMD's.

Any right wingers please feel free to trump this.

Did anyone notice this little paragraph on page two?

In all cases but one, the same company that had provided free advice to the ministry for work on a specific field was offered the technical support contract for that field, one of the companies' officials said.

I hear ya....too bad WE arent the oil companies.

Obviously with the security and training now that the US had provided the Iraqis can pick the biggest and best oil companies to come in and bring thier programs into the 21st century. Maybe someday that will equate to lower oil prices.

One documented goal of the invasion ,as stated by Bush many times was security of the worlds ability to move oil.Well its still moving isnt it?

if this war was for oil we would be reaping the benefits and the oil prices would be a lot lower. the gulf war which nobody has a problem with was about oil.

lavell12, YOU might not be reaping the benefits, but highest ever profits recorded in human history means the oil companies are doing just fine. Thanks for your concern tho.

So yeah sure thing, lavell12 "Oil has nothing to do with this". Now run along while the adults chat mmmkay.

Absolutely, Liberty... It will buy us the time to gear up for alternative non-dino juice energy resources.
So look for something similar to Aramco to be set up for Iraq's oil industry.

*Aramco is acronym for Arabian American Oil Company. The state-owned oil company of Saudi Arabia that was set up by Americans in the 1930s, Aramco is the largest oil corporation in the world and the world's largest in terms of proven crude oil reserves and production. That gasoline you put in your car might be labelled Texaco or Shell or whatever.. Thats Aramco.

Iraq offers baseline proposal of post-war alliance with USA.

Anything we do in the middle east has something to do with oil. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. We as a nation must act in our best interest. The war was not soley waged for this reason, but I'm sure it was a factor in the decision to go in.
