Default the Law of the Sea treaty

Here's something interesting, guys and girls... er... ladies...

This "Law of the Sea" treaty is currently being "hastily" pushed through the Senate. This is like the "final" step in ratification. so if it passes the Senate it becomes law, 'cause Bushie has been pushing this thing.

Here's some background:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...Law_of_the_Sea

http://www.un.org/Depts/los/index.htm

You know, so this depends on "voluntary cooperation" by nations, and of course the Europeans will probably do their best and so on, but the Cubans and Venezuelans will probably try to stick a big middle finger in everyone's eye, and go do what they want anyway, in spite of what it says in any treaty - so.....

Let's see, domestic opinion seems to be all over the map on this one, here's a few:

Heritage Foundation: `http://www.heritage.org/Research/Int...ions/wm470.cfm

Cato: http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=2567

Etc - I'm sure you can Google for more - but here's the deal: Bushie has been pushing on this thing, hard - like for instance:

So I'm asking myself, "why"? How come? 'Cause this doesn't exactly seem like a "Republican" thing to do, does it? Hmm.....

How do you feel about it, and what do you think Bushie's up to, on this one?
