Ah, ya all mixed up Blade. The military was decimated under Bush Sr., and the legislation continued through clintons term in office with the GAO writting off the BRAC closures. Clinton just followed the law written by Bush Sr., and built a lean killing machine with what he was allowed to keep. You see the money from BRAC went into techology of new weapons like the drone aircraft, hummves, hawk hieos, navy missiles, etc. that lil Bush is using today, and were ready by the Afghan war. The idea was to use distant warfare with few ground troops - lesson learned Desert Storm. But yeah, Bush Sr. is the one who gutted the military and passed on the laws to require BRAC to continue. In fact Bush Sr. let more US Troops go than Clinton did, and was even ridding himself of them while Desert Storm was going on, which I thought crazy than hell at the time.
Lil Bush is the one running down the US military as we speak, by trying to squeak by, denying needed body armor, etc. You remember Rummy don't you? Sure you do. And taxing these troops past the limits of sanity with extended tours, nervous breakdowns, suicides, wife beatings, you name it.

Nonsense - as is well known, Bubba cut the number of army divisions from 18 to 10, and closed 700 bases and installations in the US and overseas. Bush the elder was aiming at a decrease in forces after the collapse of the soviet union in 1989, but that reasoning was overturned by the emerging islamofacsist world-wide threat, and the resurgence of saddam hussein - threats that were ignored by Bubba during the 1990s, and culminated in the 9-11 attacks. |
