legalization of abortion in a vacuum allows women who would otherwise have abortions to have them in a safe environment, and to allow those whose birth control methods have failed to terminate.
i promise you. no one in the world would say "oh. why should i wear a condom? abortion is much more comfortable."
but. only pro-lifers are interested in this idea of abortion rights in a vacuum. the rest of the world has specific policy regarding sex education and availability of contraceptive devices and medications, along with education on protecting oneself from diseases. studies have demonstrated that responsible, medically accurate sex education delays sexual activity and reduces unwanted pregnancy and disease. those who demand "moral consequences" support abstinence-only programs which lie about protection and medication. the programs do not delay sexual activity, promote "alternative" sexual acts, discourqage condom use, increase unwanted pregnancies, and increase profoundly the occurrance of diseases.
also, do you really think the best way to bring a child into the world is as a "moral consequence"?

I know a women who had an abortion in college it has driven her to bad places. It haunts her every night as she lies in bed trying to sleep. She feels that she is a murderer. It has driven her to alcoholism, and then distanced her from her family she has now.

no, people who lie to women about their purpose as human beings and abuse them for their choices have a profound effect on the mental stability of women.
