If you go to the wiki on
Legal Challenges to the NSA you'll see that a number of law abiding American citizens have been illegally targeted. How many others have been eavesdropped on in unknown since, of course, this program is confidential. But, the fact that this law is on the books, and the administration is pushing for amnesty for the telecoms is plenty of evidence that citizens have been wiretapped.

You are the loony left I was describing at the beginning of this thread.

If valuing my rights as promised in the 4th Amendment makes me part of the "loony left" in your mind, then you're a bit of a loon yourself. Do you value the Constitution? Do you think that our government should be able to operate without checks and balances? Do you think we should have a right to privacy? This is basic civics, and basic American values.

You will be nothing but an empty voice falling on deaf ears. The majority of this nation says you are wrong, and have no fear or concern about our government is being proactive to fight terrorism.
|
I could care less what the majority thinks on this issue. A patriot says what he believes to be true, no matter what the popular opinion is. I am not against the government fighting terrorism, but to use that as justification to listen in without warrants on American citizens is treacherous to the ideals of this country.
Its not as if it is hard to get a warrant, or even get one in secret. Its also not as if the government can't get a warrant in extenuating circumstances even after they have began surveillance. This is a gross, and unneeded expansion of power.

World history is full of ignorance relating to what you have written, not fear mongering, just fact.

Oh please. There can hardly be a better definition of fear mongering than what you said:
would you rather thousands die again and then you can say, maybe we should monitor overseas calls of terrorists. You are placing individual freedoms against the threat and fear of deaths. American lives are obviously important to me, but I won't cash them at the expense of our fundamental rights.
