I think a lot of this stems from not being open and honest with how much the company can actually afford to pay employees. If they are sincere, then open up the books and show unions the profit margins and be straight up with how much they can afford to give and still continue operations. Win-win situation.
Unfortunately that won't happen because people are greedy and dishonest. Federal law will never mandate honesty with unions because big business funds their campaigns in a process called lobbying. People during the progressive era understood these concepts. Personally, I'm ready for a second progressive period.
Seriously, how does anyone plan to enforce a ban on strikes anyway? We have seen extremely bloody strikes in history with entire cities violently rioting in support of unions. Government is often forced to use federal troops on its own people in these extreme circumstances. Is this what we want to see happen again?
Understand that the workers' point of view is really everyone's, because we are all workers.
