Default Symbiosis

When I think of my job's perks... the number one thing is the symbiotic relationship between those like me (consumers) and many of my co-workers (producers).

You see, the producers, a mostly female group, they really are big on gushing over birthdays and retirements and babies and whatnot. And their way of showing their gushiness is to bake or buy lots of sugary desserts to place near the office or cubicle of the person in question.
Now one flaw with this behavior is that the producers are invariably on a diet that does not allow for consumption of large quantities of this kind of food. In addition they are adverse to the process of taking all these goods home.
This problem is compounded by the fact that most of the workplace is made up of producers.

How does the problem of producers putting food to waste or ruining their diets get solved without the poor creatures having to resort to not gushing over anything worthy of celebration (this is akin to cats not cleaning themselves)?
Enter the consumers, a smaller population of opportunistic scavengers.
We don't care as much about gushing over birthdays and retirements and whatnot... and would actually rather that ours go unnoticed.
But we do not have the dietary restrictions of the producers.

The result is that producers may gush in the way they see fit without worrying about diet or undue burden on the focus of the celebration. The consumers get their dietary requirement of sugary desserts. In addition the timid consumers will allow the producers to gush over their celebratory events as well.

Just an observation...

Luckily we don't have much of that in my department. At the company-wide level we do. But not in my little corner. We have a lot of fundraisers for people with various issues. People donate food and they charge a few bucks for it. The last was for a person whose house burned down. I thought the money should have gone for insurance on the new place, but I guess I'm just mean.

I think the general philosophy is for the less attractive single females to feed the eligible males until the latter bloats up to the degree they are no longer suitable for the company hotties, and so have to set their sights a bit lower.
