As for the dpeleted Uranium bit..its one of the 2 current boogymen of the OMG its NAPALM types. Every war they look for and pick something new to make out as 'evil' and must be banned.

Vietnam was Napalm...
Depleted Uranium is a hold over from the First Gulf War.
Yugolavia was too short for them to pick much so they re-used Depleted Uranium.
Second Gulf War they went with White Phospohorous...they mostly gave up on this one as it was serious eye roll central with everyone but the extreme left.
Afghanistan they started in on Cluster Bombs...current one they have been trying..its failing though...so tada Depleted Uranium again..snore.



Problem is much like the facts of the wars mentioned or their use of the plight of the people in them......they don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) whats what....they are simply using the weapon and the people as props for whatevr canned lines they are going to forget in 6 months.

Napalm doesn't hurt your own soldiers (when aimed right), Uranium does, as do cluster bombs.

There's a huge difference between natural uranium and DU, namely natural uranium doesn't aerosolize on impact/combustion, producing a nanoscale menace that's mutagenic and genotoxic. Find me one person in the DOD that's willing to have a handful of the stuff dropped in their kid's sandbox. The BS that the Pentagon spouts about it being safe is based on its modest radioactivity, and it's properties at schrapnel-sized particles. It's a whole different animal at sub-micron levels. And if DU isn't bad enough, take a look at the DIME munitions that have been used in the OT by the Israelis. Tungsten nickel/cobalt weapons are absolutely a crime against humanity. How can anyone defend a weapon that has virtually a 100% tumor rate when penetrated into soft tissue, and the left-over dust from a detonation is known to cause birth-defects?

I was watching Discovery Health channel a while back and it showcased a brave little girl that had been born lacking most of the underlying structure of her face. It's an extremely rare condition, and was tough to watch. At one point the parents were commenting on how relieved they were that the military was picking up the enormous tab for the constructive surgery because the father was active duty in the service. They didn't say if he'd been deployed in the Gulf, but the daughter's condition looked exactly like some of the photos of birth defects coming out of Southern Iraq.

This is one of those situations where the stakes are so high, the DOD will say/do anything to prevent a comprehensive look at the real effects of DU under battlefield conditions.
