As a matter of fact, Kosovo has throughout history been part of either Serbia or Ottoman Empire while they ruled the area. It is traditionally Serbian land and the heart of Serbian state.
However it was reasonably late liberated from the Turks (late 19th century). Even then it was majority Serbian, but since the end of WW2 Albanians became a majority.
