There are zillions of such references all the time. And stuff like this DOESN'T always happen for the Pee See Protected, and my point wasn't a legal one - not talking about the first amendment.

But #2, what's hypocritical about saying it's okay to make jokes about some things, but not about others?

Nuns have been joked about for centuries because they have often been authority figures, and they represent a big kahuna authority figure -- the Catholic church.

There's a difference between poking fun at authority figures and perpetuating stereotypes of traditionally marginalized groups.
In 2008, nuns are "authority figures"? Then it's OK to ridicule religion, but not race - gotcha. Hmmm... but even horrendous wars have been and still are being fought over religion - holocausts have occurred over religion - people have been burned at the stake over religion - people are being mass murdred in Darfur over religion - garsh, I guess that's not a good idea after all.

All that said, you're also wrong:

Just one example of a "disrespectful" portrayal of blacks in mainstream advertising -- about which I'm sure you heard no outcry.
HOW is that disrespectful? Because the woman portrayed is overweight? She's shown in a protective attitude toward her children?

And white guys are portrayed negatively a thousand times a day in the liberal media.
