Well, your first mistake is treating DavidHenry as representative of much beyond himself.

But yes, many people -- especially those with strongly held beliefs -- are often willing to disparage or insult those that disagree with them. And yes, sometimes it can be a double standard.

But I think that's a feature of human interaction. I don't think it's peculiar to religion or atheists. There are plenty of obnoxious believers. There are plenty of obnoxious pro- and anti-abortion people. There are plenty of obnoxious pro- and anti-immigration people.
