Russia warns of new arms race without space ban. What will the U.S. do.

What we do best. Act unilaterally.

Where and when did you beat Russia first time?

In 1991, when they were called the Soviets:
The Soviets bankrupted themselves trying to keep up with us militarily. And they had more resources than present day Russia has.

Don't forget the Cuban missile crisis - they ran away pretty quick then...

Cant believe I forgot that one. That should have been the most obvious example.

You really miss the old fear of being nuked at any time, don't you.

Not really. A democratic Russia is not a threat to us. Thats why we can safely ignore their posturing this time. And do what we were going to do anyway.

The other reality we need to face, is that we are in massive debt and can't afford another arms race in space.

Only one way to find out.

And finally, there is the reality that if we ever really face off with China or Russia or another such country that is not a middle east backwater, then they will blow all of our GPS satellites out of space and some of our technological advantage will be gone.

No matter how badly they can hurt us, we can hurt them a lot more. Thats why we don't have anything to worry about from them. If a dictatorship made that threat, we'd have to take it a lot more seriously. But with a democracy? Not so much.
