Seriously though there isn't anything in the constitution saying the government can't give your tax money to other countries. The idea is that if Americans don't like it they shouldn't vote for those people.

This is actually really worrysome. We're talking about (if the link is right) an annual expenditure about ~60% of what the war costs. The difference is most of the war money is going right back into America(and is probably taxed as it comes back) whereas little of this money would just be gone. So the actual costs are probably similar.

The difference is that even for the neocons this war, at these levels, is supposed to be a temporary thing. And they believe it to be critical to the safety of the country. (And some might think we'll make the cash back on oil).

I don't know that what Obama is talking about is suppose to be temporary.
