Independence should have come years ago but better late than never I guess. Anyway, what would happen if Kosovo remained a province of Serbia? How could the government of Serbia apply laws and policies to a people that doesn't recognize its authority? Power comes from the people and when 90% of the population wants to get rid of you, you don't stand much power. Regardless of what happened there over time, this is the only viable solution in the present time. Congratulations to Kosovo for becoming masters of your own destiny at last!
