one would have to get far closer to a deer with an AK, or SKS for example, than one would need to get with a Remington 500 BDL in .308 for example. The effective range for an assault type rifle is not much more than 100 yards if one is expecting any high degree of accuracy...the Remington (a bonified hunting weapon) on the other hand can deliver very good accuracy out past 300 yards...and contrary to what you seem to be suggesting, no one hunts with a full auto weapon...which, by the way, is not banned under the assault weapon ban.
