I appreciate this, more than I can rightly express. Posts like this add a tremendous value to this forum. That's why I love coming here and reading.
What makes me sad is not what you wrote, but what you are suggesting as a criteria for viability is how much work you would have to do. Its a good thing, I guess, that you were not the Father of Christopher Reeve or Joni Erikson Tada or FDR or Chris Burke. For all these people had truly exceptional people who cared for them.
I can't judge you. You decided what was best for your family. I can't fault you for that. You were only going on information you were given by people you trust. I pray that you have good success and love your whole life. I pray that God enables your children to become people who can make a positive difference.
But wouldn't it be ironic, if they became the scientists who discovered a means by which the birth defect your first child had, could be reversed? And wouldn't it be tragic, if they did, and several thousand parents didn't find out about it, until it was too late?
