We have recourse. And the oil companies are not state owned anyway...they all knew the risks of dealing with South American socialists. It isn't Uncle Sam's job to bail them out. Chavez technically did not seize any US assets...he seized the assets of some privately owned companies that are owned by US citizens.
And um...name calling doesn't count as a "threat" heh heh

Nothing would provoke them short of an actual invasion. Witness how they are sitting on their thumbs while Kosovo declares independence. They're pragmatists, and therefore predictable.
