And if we are really SCARED and SERIOUS here's the answer for now: NUCLEAR ENERGY. It's what they've got in countries like France. And it's clean and affordable.
So....question for the libs on here: WHY AREN'T WE DOING NUCLEAR ENERGY?? Why isn't Gore---the know-it-all ---pushing this option?

Nuclear energy isn't particularly clean or affordable. The nuclear fission process can be clean with proper management, certainly - but there is still an enormous amount of energy that must be expended to mine uranium ore and process this into a usable fuel. Not to mention just the standard environmental risks that are involved in any major heavy metal mining operation. And the major cost that is never accounted for when people try to find the real cost of nuclear energy is the rehabilitation costs of mined land and the decommissioning costs of obsolete reactors.
Thene there is the nuclear waste issue, the nuclear weapon issue, blah, blah blah.
I have nothing against nuclear energy as such - but it simply is not a solution to our future energy problems. It simply makes no sense to replace one finite, polluting energy source with another finite, polluting energy source. And uranium resources are very finite. There really is very little fuel grade uranium available.
Thorium reactors - now that may be the thing of the future. I don't know a lot about it, but what I have read sounds promising.
