They have increased discrectionary spending under Bush far faster than spending increased under Clinton. The republicans passed the largest entitlement program in decades. And the republicans have borrowed so much money for foreign governments that we are now at their mercy not to destroy our economy. It is also cheaper to pay for something outright than to borrow to pay for something. The country paid over $400 Billion in interest on the republican generated debt last year alone. Democrats tax and spend, which is bad. Republicans borrow and spend even more... which is worse.
