[quote=B L Zeebub;449592][quote=shadowman;449569]You are Irish I apologise for my mis-conception.
No need to apologise, simple mistake.
Are you saying that as an athiest I am devoid of a moral compass?
No I never made any such claim. I said that our morals and sense of decency originated in our religious beliefs.
Are you saying that without religeon we would not have laws?
Religion is already being removed from our laws, and look around you, everything is becoming more acceptable. Drugs, prostitution, abortion, scientists are now talking about cloning people. All these things are helping bring about the destruction of our society.
Religion is about control with the end game being if you are good you go to heaven if you are bad you go to hell, so why do you need man made penalties, because the concept is becoming weaker and weaker
If there was no religion why be good, why not just be a selfish git and do whatever you like, why have laws at all. Which is already seems to be the way it is going, people seem to give into every temptation and lustful desire. All this in pursuit of happiness, but this is a false happiness, it's fleeting and then leaves the person with an emptiness feeling. So people go out and give into their desire again and so it becomes addictive.
When I was a young man 40 yrs ago I worked on the Kelly Boats taking coal from Liverpool to Dublin I made lots of money smuggling "Condoms" and "Tit Mags" into your country for some very Holly people.
I am sure not everyone was reading these titty mags and using the condoms. Also not everyone in Ireland is holy we do not percieve ourslves to be either. In Ireland we had a vote on wether there should be abortion or not, thank God we voted not to make this act acceptable by law.
Rel/Hypocracy was alive and well then, and with the budjet airlines abortion flights out of your country it seems to be alive and kicking now.
If everywhere else also banned abortion and made it less acceptable they could not just hop on a plane and get it done in another country.
