This jibes with the impression of conservatives that I get, also.

I disagree with them on two points: 1) Socialism does not necessarily lead to communism; 2) We could still use more socialism (but only to the degree that we can do so while still maintaining individual liberty -- I think that more socialism now would improve individual liberty in America but that's another conversation).

But as to the question, do all cons equate socialism and communism? I agree with what Sunnyside said.
