While I agree that the NYT should have mentioned it, that's an oversight, and a minor one at that. You assume ideological bias at work. But it hardly demonstrates disdain for soldiers when they came back a week later with a better, fuller story that served readers well, and followed it up again 3 weeks after that.

Which is why they ran a lengthy story on the day the medal was awarded, and another lengthy story 3 weeks later....
And reposting the same editorial by a competitor for the third time doesn't really advance the discussion.
