Interesting how gun haters always want to take guns off of the streets of America instead of the people using guns for crimes.
As for you ak remark. There are two types of automatics, semi automatic and full-auto.

M16's are select fire weapons. I do not know of any state that permits people to hunt with machine-guns. The AR15 is the semiautomatic version of the M16. AR15's are used to hunt with.
Full-auto firearms are legal to own in most of the states. The recreational use of machine-guns is a growing sport. The states where they are legal have many shoots for this group of guns. Crimes with legally owned machine guns are unheard of.
