And I think a lot of people do figure Israel wants the land. I mean if you took someone who didn't know the region and showed them a map of the area and said. "Ok you're this country here, what land would you want to get first?" they'd probably pick Gaza and the west bank.

Honestly I think the Palestinians should have followed Kosovos model. You attack because you have to. But then instead of continuing terrorism and hostilities you switch into nicey nice mode. Also you'd want to appeal to instead of anger the US. There are other countries like Russia or China that could aid Palestinian independence. But they could give a rats behind about Palestine, and aren't going to help. Only the US/NATO are meddlesome enough to help. And we've twisted Israels arm a couple times when they caused to much collateral damage.

It's just the Palestinians throw away any feelings of support that build up in the US. We see pictures of dead Palestinian babies, but then see the blood spots from a rampage at an Israeli university or hear of rockets flying over the border etc etc and we think, ah, Israel must fight back. To bad about the collateral damage.
