Anyone could make an arguement for any gun being a "self defense" or "home security" weapon, but I think it is the orginal intent of the purchase that makes the difference. An AK-47 does not make a good "home defense"
weapon, does that mean that I wouldn't use it, if it were the only option, of course not. However, I would not purchase an assault rifle for the sole purpose of "home defense".

Starting 100 yards out, you could run away from a guy with an AK. Start from the same distance and run from a guy with a .300 Weatherby and a fat Leupold sitting on top... you'll just die tired.

Not sure why you would be running from some guy, while you are out "hunting" with your AK-47, so I don't understand the reason why this would help the "AK-47 as a hunting rifle" arguement, please explain.
