One of the downsides of having a military that not only represents a tiny fraction of the population, but tends to draw heavily from a tiny subset of that population. It's easy to be cavalier about people you don't know, seeing them as an abstract organization (the military) and not people putting lives on the line.

People really should sit up and notice that when it comes to deciding on military action, the generals are almost always the ones *least* interested in doing so. Think about why that might be.
