Alright so it looks like the origional thread idea isn't an option for now with the Serbs.

But now I'm curious about what they actually offered. Was there an actually plan written up somewhere? Link and paraphrase would be good.

A couple specific questions

For one would the Kosovars have their own armed forces of any kind. Or would the area be controlled by Serbs.

Kosovo was fairly autonomous before Milsovic right? But their culture was oppressed and they were driven in horrid unemployment.

What would have been done to address the conditions of the people there after NATO was gone.

AMD mentioned the Kosovars taking "their" minerals. Would the minerals be any less the Albanians under your plan?

What else? Are you guys saying that if they used a Serb flag and didn't bother to have mapmakers redraw the lines you'd be fine with them exactly as they are now? I imagine not. What else is there?

Finally, and I think key to the issue.

Was Serbia willing to admit that what it had done was wrong?

Was Serbia willing to admit that in Milsovics course of action that Yugoslavia needed to be stopped. And direct military action was one of the few things that could stop him?

I can't stress how key this is. There are many legal precidents in the US that you don't mix abusers or generally criminals with those they could harm until they repent for what they had done in the past. Otherwise they have a very high chance of repeating it.


And yes it would come up. From the sounds of things if we had handed Kosovo back to Serbia and NATO left there would have been trouble. Maybe the KLA would show up again. Harvest some Serbian organs and sell them. Who knows. But you would be expected to show the kind of restraint you see from the US in Iraq.

After seeing the clearly corrupted government troops stand aside while the US embassy was burned I imagine that even if official government troops didn't do anything the embassy burning type would come out to say hi to the neighboring Albanians.
