Covertly arming and training designated terrorists group (while all the while denying it) isnt quite the same as issuing public statements regarding arms deals with allies.

Not to mention we also sell armaments to many of Israels foes (for a lack of a better word),perhaps in an effort to balance the perceived preference.In any case for your analogy to hold water ,Iran would also need to arm Israel to keep things even.
