I might agree with your first claim if ALL references to marriage were taken out of law. In other words, people are married by their church, they get a union and civil benefits from the government, gay and straight. Otherwise we suffer a great risk of "separate but equal" being anything but equal.

While I may disagree with your second claim about children, I don't think there is enough reliable studies by unbias parties to prove it either way. However, I do feel that in almost all cases, a childs biological parent is better then none, so if its the choice between the state taking custody of the child or the child going to their gay parent, I think the obvious choice is to give them to the gay parent. In addition, I believe a "gay" family is better than no family at all. Certainly we have no shortage of children that need to be adopted around the world. I hardly think the state raising them is a better option. I feel it's the quality of the raising, and not the gender of the parents, that is most important.
