The biggest problem with Welfare is that it absolves fathers from having to take responsibility for their own offspring. My own father, left us when I was 4, and for a time my Mom did have to get on Government Assistance for help. The few times that I asked my father for money to buy clothes or new shoes (since my shoes were getting holes in them - not too much fun in the NE with Snow) he would say things like, Well Welfare is giving your mother money, so ask her. Lol, I don't necessarily disagree with what you have to say in the second part. But again, like I have said before, we can't put everyone in the same bucket. You are speaking from your own life experiences, and in that scenario, it makes sense. I don't think your scenario speaks for every person that has gotten support from welfare.
