The only flaw in the relevancy in your two examples is that, economically, going to the moon wasn't necessary. The Manhattan Project wasn't necessary either, other than the fact that Operation Olympic would have probably cost the USA a million casualties.

I said to get rid of ethanol. It's stunting our food supplies, which is causing costs to skyrocket. The amount of corn it takes to fill up one average tank of gas, can feed a child for one full year. Ethanol is just a ploy for simple minded tree-huggers.
