I haven't read the whole thread, but to answer the OP's question, it is my opinion that life begins when the heart starts beating in utero - approximately four weeks after conception, which is about two weeks after the fertilised egg implants in the uterus. It's a little difficult for me to make myself believe that something with a beating heart isn't alive.
And seeing as I woke up this morning with a nice series of boots and punches to my left kidney, I have a hard time making myself believe that life begins at birth, which is what many claim.
