Many cars out there now, get mileage equivalent to a bigger displacement motorcycle.

I ride a
Suzuki Burgman 650 which is a scooter with a 650cc engine. Keeps up just fine on the highway, even with 2, and gets 50+ mpg in my normal commuting. Add to that the reduced parking fees, and it becomes a prettty economical vehicle. The shield keeps most of the rain off, and it has handy under seat storage where I can store my other raingear. Of course, I also subscribe to the "All the Gear, All the Time" theory, which means that when I'm on the bike, I'm wearing a helmet, jacket, overpants, boots, and gloves. I like my nice smooth skin.
