From time to time, I post in another forum which is very small (6 people) and its inhabitants are all academics.
One recently asked the question " do you know of any good political forums"

Much to my surprise, I found that I could NOT recommend this forum.
On some more exclusive forums, people exchange ideas and make valid points, then offer rebuttles.

Maybe I am waxing nostolgic, but it seems to me that this forum's discourse has devolved into:
a) racists and jew haters Those democrats
b) conspiracy theorists Those democrats
c) HARD line ideologues whose mantra is either "liberals = commi satanists" or "Conservatives = warmonger nazis" Those democrats
d) People who feel they can type ANYTHING, and have it be accepted as undisputed fact. Those democrats
e) spammers - Those democrats(345454 threads on Obama's preacher)
f) People who link every headline they can find, AKA spammers Those democrats
g) a SMALL minority of thoughtful intelligent posters. God Bless the Conservatives

I figure I stay here to see what that small minority has to say.
or maybe, there are several good posters, but they are totally drowned out by the sea of garbage.

I think of this as more of a comedic political forum.
I find it amusing, yet lacking in valuble content.
I admit I don't contribute much these days, and would actually rather discuss the NBA or videogames, but this is partially due to bordeom in reading 10,000 threads on the inferiority of blacks, and the stupidity of commies/liberals.

I don't know how you Mods handle it. I have no clue how you elevate the level of discourse without limiting free speech.

Just my random thoughts of the day.

P.S. On a positive note, 95% of all forums are like this one or worse. The ones I would consider "more intellectual" are fairly snobby, don't advertise, and certainly kick out anyone who displays the traits of an average American. ("Jews caused 9/11 = ban" or "shoot illegals at the border" = ban)
