Swearing
I used to think swearing was quite a liberated thing to do, especially within a conservative society. Now, I really dislike it. Although spoken words could be described as vibrations in the air, they do contain a meaning and a feeling for those who understand the language.
Themeaning of swear words is usually a coarse way of describing things (some of which are beautiful e.g. making love). They usually have some sort of ugly connotations, even violent and intentionally shocking.
Refinement of speech is one of the virtues we can aspire to because it makes social situations pleasant and helps create unity in a group.
Even if this theory does not convince, I am sure our experience shows to us that an environment without swearing is far more pleasant than one where it occurs.
