Let's first dispel the myth that Republican's are the Second Amendments friend, they are not.
The Nazi inspired 68 Gun Control Act had heavy Republican support
Reagan's Firearm Owners Protection Act, while needed for the average gun owner, was indeed a ban on any new NFA weapons. Even though the only recorded crime with a registered NFA firearm was committed by a cop killing his informant in 1982
Reagan also gave us the "cop killer bullet" ban, which hasn't saved one life and only drove up the cost of ammunition
Reagan also banned so called plastic guns in an attempt to hult Glocks from reaching American hands - now ever cop has one
George Bush, Sr banned the import of 43 "assault weapons" in 1989 with the stroke of a pen on an executive order, laying the groundwork for Clintons 94 AWB - which both Reagan and Bush Sr supported
Rudolph Giuliani, mayor of New York City and GOP candidate for president, sued 26 gun manufacturers in June 2000
The current Bush said he would renew an AWB, and just to show he ment it, when the Clinton AWB expired, Bush had his buddy Aberto at the DOJ issue an order to AFT to stop approving Form 6 imports of parts kits unles the barrel, trunions and recievers were all completely destroyed
So lets review, FDR TAXED machine guns, supressors, SBR and SBS - which Reagan hatled in 1986. Cost of an M-16 H-BAR in 1986, 600 bucks. Todays cost 15,000 dollars. BAR's that were almost given away then, 20,000 Bucks
Bush Sr ban caused an HK G-3 to go from 500 to 3 Grand. FAL, AK's, you name it - in real condition, are all through the roof on price
And with Bush Jr's ban, even the rebuild market has doubled. Plus you can't get parts to fix the guns already in country.
Bush Jr has also put the squeeze on surplus ammo. 7.62x51 NATO went from 120 a Thou in 2006 to 520 today, if you can find it, and it's Lithuanian for God's sake. Gone are the days of cheap Radway Green when I'd sit in my lawn chair till 4 AM drinking beer and dump 4000 rounds through a 1919A4 at one glow stick - just cause I could
Anyway, the GOP may talk like they're a gun owners friend, but they are not. If you believe your Rep is, ask them why they have not supported Ron Paul's Second Amendment Restoration Act
