Real easy. In my state, no training is required to purchase a firearm. For rifles and shotguns, you fill out a federal form and the dealer conducts an NICS check. If you answered the form correctly and passed the NICS check, you can walk out the door with your rifle and shotgun.

Handguns require a state form, the same federal form as above, a background check by the local police agency (which includes the same NICS check as above), and a 5-day waiting period.

If you have a Concealed Pistol License (CPL), the 5-day waiting period is waived and you can walk out the door with your handgun after NICS approval. It pays to have a CPL. Even a CPL doesn't require training.
