I never called him an elite. I think both Obama and Him are in the upper class cash wise. The whole argument that one or the other just thinks of themselves as better than others is just conjecture. Without having coffee, tea or lunch with them or watching a ball game and hanging out, I don't think anyone will be able to tell. I don't think it's an either or here, but I know conservatives like to paint everything that way.

True, true. But really this is about John McCain's hypocrisy when he calls people who own one car elitist. He needs to stop playing class warfare and shooting himself in the foot.

Maybe you could show us the quote of McCain saying that Obama is elite because he only owns one car. Once again, you're missing the point. His elitism isn;t about his houses or his cars.

Just look at all his ads, they are all slamming Obama for being out of touch and elitist. I just think this class warfare is hypocritical since it is McCain who owns 13 cars, not Obama.

How many kids does he have? How many of those houses or cars are cosigned? Surely judging by their age they aren't 100% financially stable yet.

I could only throw in a 'duh' here. I seriously doubt he is driving a different Mercedes every day of the week and moving to another place every other week.

Nice dodge, but here is my question again. Where is the quote of McCain accusing Obama of being elitist because of his cars and homes, as you have asserted? You keep making this issue about the cars and homes these men have but, as has been said here many times, elitism has nothing o do with the possessions and everything to do with attitude.

You know who else is grossly mypocritical about the environment?

Al Gore.

Well obviously, McCain would be very stupid to attack Obama as elitist based on the number of cars and houses he owns, since Obama only owns one of each!

(McCain owns 13 cars and 8 houses. Who is the elitist?)

edit: I understand what you are trying to say, but that is a weak argument for Mr. McCain, who is trying to paint his opponent as elitist using a very narrow definition of the word. It is up to us, the critical thinkers -- especially conservatives and Republicans -- to examine the legitimacy of such allegations. I'm not trying to help McCain get elected anymore but I would hope he is not becoming senile. Unfortunately I'm afraid he is. I know why Obama is elitist in the minds of many of my fellow conservatives -- he is a black progressive who does not know his place and does not take no for an answer. He is an educated black man and has a very conservative, traditional family with no drugs, extramarital affairs or children out of wedlock. But many American families are like his; it is unfair to call normal families elitist. I think many of my fellow conservatives misinterpret audacity for elitism. But Obama's audacity impresses me a great deal; it shows to me that he is a strong leader.

In the end, that's what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope? I'm not talking about blind optimism here -- the almost willful ignorance that thinks unemployment will go away if we just don't talk about it, or the health care crisis will solve itself if we just ignore it. No, I'm talking about something more substantial. It's the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs; the hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores; the hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta; the hope of a millworker's son who dares to defy the odds; the hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too. Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope.
