I'll break this to you gently. An amount all the way up to half of the illegals in this country did not break in but came in on visas and when the visas expired they stayed. A border fence won't stop visa overstayers. Removing the jobs magnet that the employers of illegals provide WILL stop the visa overstayers from overstaying. If there are not jobs for them they won't overstay. Removing the jobs magnet will obviously stop the illegals from breaking in accross the border. Stopping drug smugglers, terrorists, and criminal illegals is a different matter.
