A USA Today/Gallup Poll indicated that 75% of Americans felt the U.S. did not make a mistake in sending troops to Iraq in March 2003. However, according to the same poll retaken in April 2007, 58% of the participants stated that the initial attack was a mistake.[1] In May, 2007, the New York Times and CBS News released similar results of a poll in which 61% of participants believed the U.S. "should have stayed out" of Iraq.

Seven months prior to the September 11 attacks a Gallup poll showed that 52% would favor an invasion of Iraq while 42% would oppose it.
Polls are always suspect but I think from my recollection this is true.

At the time the war started public opinion was in favor of the War, now that
many people disagree whe should be turning our backs on our troops. I
agree that we as a people are too fascinated with our military, but our soldiers are doing what "we" not just our politicians asked them to do. This "journalist" (and I use that term lightly) can demonize our politicians, and our soldiers if he wants to, but he is a hypocrite if he doesn't include us all in his rant. In 2003 our people were for the war, right or wrong. When we believe in something our soldiers are heroes, but when we change our mind they should be labeled monsters, I have friends and family in Iraq right now, none of them are monsters.
