The keyboard for which you take your name is a good example of how ideas sometimes stagnate. The purpose of the QWERTY keyboard was to slow down typists back in the days when they jammed easy.

Now the main reason we have them is because we're used to them and the whole industry around creating and teaching how to use them has grown comfortable with the purposely inefficient model.
