Your comments on not having a standing military are powerfully ignorant. Without a powerful military we'd be at the mercy of monsters around the globe. Regular Americans COULD NOT turn back an invasion. Pitting regular Americans against a trained and equiped army of terrorists would be a bloodbath loss for us. Duh.

At the mercy of the evils of the world. Come on. I thank the soldiers of the AR and WW2 (and possibly CW). I respect them greatly. I would glady do what they did (die for freedom). But no soldier outside those two (or three depending on your perspective) have died for my rights.
As for standing military, a nuclear arsenal would be enough I would think. The navy would be enough I would think. Having the military bureaucracy, the military career, is irksome to me.
